Lübeck, Germany

Special thanks for my friend giving me a place to stay, taking care of me, making me dinner and be my translator.
I tried many traditional German dishes, with his own style to make them healthier. I am spoiled...

I miss my friend and our little chat every night and watching Germany's next top model every Thursday night.
He gave me a lot of tips for my trip!

Lübeck 給我的印象是美麗又寧靜的古都。
舊城區是在一個小島上，被運河圍繞著。在小小的島嶼上，擁有7個大大小小的教堂。

My impression of Lübeck is a beautiful, peaceful and quiet old town.
The old part of Lübeck is surrounded by the canal, and there are 7 churches in a small island in walking distance.


我沒有參觀所有的教堂，但我參觀了大部份。其中有兩個給我的印象特別深的，分別是Lübeck最大的教堂 St. Mary's Church 和 給海軍和漁民的教堂 St. Jakobi Church，也是紀念於1957年 The Sinking of The Pamir 的海難。

I couldn't visit all 7 churches, but I visited most of them. The churches impressed me the most are St. Mary's Church, the biggest church in Lübeck; and St. Jakobi Church, recognized as the church for sailors and fishermen, also to memorize the sea accident: The Sinking of The Pamir in 1957.

Things to do:

• 除了到教堂參觀外，記得要到 Niederegger 吃他們的蛋糕。誠意推介他們的 Frankfurter，真心的覺得是 Niederegger 最美味的蛋糕。個人認為放進冰箱一會兒，抽走一點水份更好吃。它不像香港的蛋糕，鬆鬆軟軟的，它很有質感，是我喜愛有點厚實的蛋糕。 Niederegger 最出名的是 Marzipan，但什麼是 Marzipan??? 店員告訴我是杏仁，糖和玫瑰水的混合物。其實這個品牌在香港也有售，不過沒有售賣蛋糕。
• Besides visiting the churches, don't forget to enjoy the cake from Niederegger. Strongly recommand to try Frankfurter, the best cake in Niederegger. The texture doesn't like those we have in Hong Kong, it's more solid, not fluffy, which I like. I prefer to keep in refrigerator for a while to dry the cake a bit. Actually, others are good too!!! Niederegger is famous for Marzipan production, but what is Marzipan? I asked the shop ladies and she said it's a mixture of Almonds, Sugar and Rose Water. You could find this brand in Hong Kong as well, but not their cakes.

Frankfurter

• 要看全景的話，到 St. Peter Church 內的塔頂參觀吧! 是的! 你需要付 3歐 的費用。
• Go up to the tower at St. Peter Church to see the view of the whole town. Yes! You have to pay 3 euros.

• 在河邊吃個午餐，跟朋友聊天，或靜靜的坐著也可以，那裡很悠閒很美，旅行不是需要休息的嗎?
• Spend some time sitting next to the canal. Have your lunch, chat with friends or simply do nothing.

• Lübeck 舊城其實真的很小，可以不用坐車。到處你也可以發現約500年歷史的舊建築。不過已轉化為住宅了，所以參觀時要記得保持安靜!
• Walk around the whole island, old buildings are everywhere, mostly are about 500 years old, but they are changed to residential houses. Please keep quiet...Shhh!

Tips:
建議大家在那裡住一兩天吧。因為由漢堡坐火車要40-45分鐘，而且各教堂的關閉時間很早，約下午3或4點，一天遊是絕對不夠時間。
I suggest to stay 1 or 2 night there because it takes about 40-45 mins from Hamburg by train, but the churches closed early, around 3pm or 4pm, it's definitely not enough time for day trip.

做點功課才去吧，最起碼下載Lübeck的地圖。資訊中心離火車站確是有點距離，而且他們也沒有英文的地圖提供，地圖更是要購買的。(這在德國很普遍!)
Do some research before you go, download the city map at least! The tourist information center isn't close to the train station. And they don't have a English city map and you have to pay  for the map. (In fact, the city maps in Germany cost money!)
